TESTIMONIALSReview of "Off the Cuff"
from George Fendel, Jazz Society of Oregon, November 2010
"The sound made famous by old guard tenor men is a rarity these days. And so we must celebrate when a Michael Zsoldos comes along and reminds us of past heroes with names like Dexter, Little Giant and Clifford Jordan. Zsoldos keeps it right down the center of the mainstream highway, and you get the message from the opening notes of 'Lullaby of the Leaves'. . .Zsoldos delivers the tenor goods in the best of the tradition."
"Michael Zsoldos has released his debut CD, and it's a winner. Unlike most of the young leaders in his position who aim for instant flash and dazzle, Zsoldos patiently generates warmth and respect. And fun. He offers not only fresh interpretations of familiar material, but also some engaging originals. No nonsense here: Zsoldos's quartet really swings. Vermont's jazz scene suddenly comes alive with this disc." --Lou Kannenstine (Boxholder Records)
Review from a UVM saxophone student:
Lessons with Mike were great! A huge level of technical skill, a firm knowledge of music pedagogy and jazz, combined to make for challenging, fun lessons. He was interested in building personal relationships with all the students and was future oriented on the assignments; they weren't 'do this next week' assignments, they were 'use this strategy for the rest of your life' lessons.
